Overview

Radiesse is a popular injectable filler and a preferred treatment by many of our Metairie patients. As the only FDA approved dermal filler that is manufactured with calcium-based microspheres, Radiesse is known for its lasting results and has been proven to be safe and effective to use to smooth fine lines, contours, and wrinkles. Our Metairie plastic surgeons recommend Radiesse for patients who desire a filler treatment that is long-lasting. Comprised of calcium hydroxyapatite, which naturally resides inside the bones and face, this filler also stimulates the body’s production of calcium, creating gorgeous results year-round.

Administering Radiesse

Radiesse can be injected during an office visit in just 30 minutes. Before the procedure, the injection areas will be marked and cleaned. A local anesthetic may be used for additional comfort, however the filler itself is mixed with an anesthetic called Lidocaine. Using a syringe, the surgeon will inject the Radiesse filler into the skin. Following the procedure, patients may feel numb or experience redness near the injection sites, which normally subsides in a short time. There is no downtime, and patients are able to return to work following their appointment.

What to Expect

Patients should notice a difference to their face almost immediately following a Radiesse® injection. However, because the injection ingredient works to produce and stimulate collagen development, results will be longer lasting than some of the other fillers on the market. Patients should expect results that include added volume to the face which will smooth out wrinkle, and typically last up to one year. Patients can repeat this procedure when they feel their results are no longer visible.

Radiesse FAQs

What About Other Fillers?

Patients who are considering an injectable filler as part of their cosmetic treatment have a diverse selection of fillers to choose from. Fillers such as Radiesse are considered temporary, even though the results may last up to a full year. Common filler procedures include collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, and the heaviest of the fillers, PMMA. During your consultation, we will discuss the various fillers and evaluate your facial tone, laxity, and volume levels to help you decide which filler may be the best choice.

What Makes Radiesse Different?

Radiesse is the only dermal filler composed of calcium-based microspheres, which are comparable to hyaluronic acid injectable fillers due to the natural ability to stimulate collagen production. The results slightly vary from the two types of fillers, and generally patients are more pleased with results from Radiesse.

What About Side Effects?

Patients undergoing Radiesse may have mild redness, bruising, numbness and/or itching that occur following treatment. These are temporary side effects that usually disappear within a day or two.
