This cosmetic surgery is for men and women who want a fuller, rounder butt. Today's implants look and feel like regular muscular tissue, and when placed within the buttock it allows patients to have the butt they desire. The best candidates for butt augmentation surgery are those who are at a healthy weight and who have a good, healthy skin tone and limited skin sag. For patients who desire a more natural approach, a fat transfer can be used where fat is taken from one part of the body and injected directly into the buttock. This is known as a Brazilian butt lift. Patients who are thin (size 0-4) may not be candidates for a Brazilian butt lift due to having a low body weight, therefore, implants often serve as the best solution.
What to Expect
During your initial consultation, the current shape of the buttocks will be examined, as well as the skin tone of the patient, and the available fat tissue that can be transferred from another area of the body. The plastic surgeon will ask you how you wish your buttocks to look, and will go over the surgical options in detail. During butt augmentation surgery, the buttocks are reshaped by placing soft silicone implants under the muscles of the buttocks, on top of the pelvic bone. The various implant types will be discussed during your consultation.
After the Surgery
The recovery following butt augmentation surgery will vary for patients depending on the type of procedure that was performed. Patients will need to rest for a couple of days to allow the swelling to subside. Any pain or discomfort can be managed with prescription pain mediation. During the first couple of weeks, patients will need to avoid sitting or placing direct pressure on the buttock. A soft cushion will help if sitting is needed. Most patients are able to return to work after the first week, and exercise can be resumed within six weeks.

Do They Look Fake?
If the implants are placed correctly, they will look and feel natural. It is important to find a reputable, skilled surgeon to perform the surgery who has expertise with placing butt implants. Done correctly, butt implants look like you have spent hours at the gym!
Fat Transfer or implants?
Both techniques are common among cosmetic surgeons and both achieve good results. The biggest factor is on how long you wish the enhancement to last. Implants are long lasting and may be better if you want the look to stay for a long time. Fat transfers do not last forever. In fact, some of the fat used during this process will be reabsorbed into the body. It is important to discuss the advantages and disadvantages with your surgeon and come to an agreement based on your aesthetic goals and anatomy.
Can I Sit?
Yes. Patients are able to resume sitting and doing all of the things they did before surgery. It may take up to three months for all of the swelling to subside and for the implants to take on a natural position, look, and feel. It is common for patients to have some anxiety about sitting or how much pressure to place on the buttocks. This should not be a major concern because the implants are placed higher on the buttock so they will not interfere with most sitting positions.
What if I Gain Weight?
Obviously, the best long-term results will be in those patients who maintain a healthy goal weight. Gaining weight after this surgery will compromise the surgery results because during weight gain, fat goes towards the butt first. This will hide the effects of the surgery. By maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, the results will continue to last.
